Free From Condemnation

“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death,” Romans 8:1. How many of us, after having accepted Jesus as our Lord, still feel condemned when we sin? The word condemned means “to express complete disapproval of, to sentence to a particular punishment, especially death.” But if we believe God’s Word, we see there is NO condemnation anymore for us. 2 Corinthians 5:21 says that “God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.” God sees us as righteous because of what Jesus did! And because Jesus died ONCE for all sin (1 Peter 3:18), His sacrifice covers every sin that you have committed, bothBreaking Chain past and future. He sees your spirit as righteous, even when you slip up and do the wrong things. When we sin we definitely feel that its wrong. We have a new nature once we accept Jesus as our Savior. Sinning goes against our new nature. Its not NATURAL for us to sin anymore, and we feel that. However, Holy Spirit loves to remind us of our righteousness! He is our comforter. So where do the feelings of guilt and shame come from? Revelation 12:10 tells us that Satan is the “accuser of the Brethren.” He does his best to feed us the lie that we are guilty when we sin. He wants us to think that God is unhappy with us, and that we are just poor, helpless sinners that can’t do any better. But nothing could be further from the truth! I love Colossians 1:22. It says “But now He has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in His sight, without blemish and FREE FROM ACCUSATION.” Other translations say that we are without a single fault, beyond reproach, and blameless. Every time you accept accusation from the enemy, you are choosing to believe his lie over the truth of God’s Word. To truly live under grace, we need to stop feeling guilty about our sins. When we mess up, we need to run to God and remember our righteousness that Jesus gave us. We need to rebuke Satan and refuse to listen to him. By resting on the grace of God, we are reminded of His kindness which draws us closer to Him. The more we understand grace, the more grateful we become towards Him and understand His love. God is not mad at you! He’s pleased with you, and He provided a way for you to live a life free of guilt, shame, and condemnation!
