“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things,” Philippians 4:8. IT MATTERS what you think about. Whatever your mind dwells on becomes bigger to you, and your mind usually only dwells on one big thing at a time. If your problems, fears, and failures are all you think about, you have less and less room for God to be the biggest thing on your mind. That’s why Scripture tells us to magnify God and remember all the good things He has done for us. “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you,” Isaiah 26:3. As you meditate on God, He becomes bigger to you, and you begin to understand that He is bigger than any problem you may have. As you magnify God, your problems take on a new reality because you understand that He is big enough to take care of it. 2 Corinthians 10:5 says “take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” We can’t always control every thought that comes into our minds, but we CAN decide what we will do with it once it is there. We can choose not to dwell on it and instead fix our thoughts on Christ. When we do this, we allow God to keep us in His perfect peace.
