“Now if we are children, then we are heirs–heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ,” Romans 8:17. Ephesians 1:11 says that “In Him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will.” We know that as Christ followers we have an inheritance. Jesus paid the full price for it on the cross. Just like an earthly inheritance, we could not receive it until the one giving it had died. “For a will takes effect only at death, since it is not in force as long as the one who made it is alive,” Hebrews 9:17. And just like an earthly inheritance, we are meant to receive all the benefits of it during our lifetime. We don’t save it until we die, because it has value to us during the time we spend on earth. In the same way, Jesus intends for us to receive the benefits of our inheritance from Him during our lifetime. We were never meant to view it as something that would only benefit us after we die. Jesus paid for our salvation, freedom, health, prosperity, and access to the presence of God! All the resources of God’s Kingdom are available to us!
