Recently I’ve been repeatedly asked why I see why I don’t see the same level of healings and miracles in the United States as I do when I am preaching the Gospel in a foreign country. This must be a popular question so I’ve decided to share my answer. Here it is: Over the last 18 months while ministering in America through the power of Holy Spirit I have seen deaf ears open, lame walking, a multitude of incurable disease healed including terminal cancer, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, as well as various mental disorders completely healed (including bipolar and manic depression), broken bones instantly fused, chronic pain completely and instantly vanish, and multitudes of other supernatural healings. During the last 18 months I have spent a total about 2 of the months ministering in Brazil, Mexico, and the Philippines where, due to size and nature of the meetings, I have easily prayed for 10x more people than the other 16 months in America. SO yes, I have seen more people healed when ministering on foreign soil but simply because more people have been prayed for! In America the Gospel of Jesus Christ is just as powerful as in anywhere else in the world. If I had a series of meetings in Madison, Wisconsin any other American city like we just had in the Philippines, with thousands in attendance, we would again see hundreds and hundreds of supernatural healings. Jesus is just as eager to heal here as He is there. The only reason why I have seen God do more in some places is because He has been give more opportunity! God is ready to pour out healing and miracles in the United States like we have never seen. In John 14 Jesus tells us that we will do the same works that He did and even greater! Do you believe Him? I do.
“Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father,” Philippians 2:9-11. When I first started to learn about how God heals people, this verse became one that I meditated on a lot. Every sickness has a name. The flu has a name. Cancer and depression have names. And according to Scripture, they are all required to come under the authority of Jesus, since His name is above theirs. When Jesus laid down His life for us, He took on Himself every sin and sickness and had complete victory! There was nothing left un-done because His sacrifice was perfect! As I began to understand that Jesus had already DONE everything, I realized that it also meant that nothing was too difficult for Him. There is no disease that He can’t handle, because He already defeated it. Its so easy to look at the natural world around us and see some miracles as “easier” for God to supply than others. Many times we think about something like a cold or headache as easy for God, but other things as much harder. But in reality, since Jesus has already paid for every healing, there is no difference between being healed of a headache or heart attack. Its no more difficult for God to raise the dead than heal a small cut. Jeremiah 32:17 says “Ah, Sovereign LORD, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.” We need to start using our faith to look past this natural world. We can’t focus on how we feel because our feelings don’t always line up with the Word of God. We have to look past what our physical eyes tell us, and focus on the truth found in Scripture. “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in Me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do ever greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in My name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son,” John 14:12-13. Jesus said that WHATEVER we ask in His name, He will do. There are no incurable diseases. There are no limits! When we pray for the sick, we aren’t begging God and twisting His arm to do something for us. We are simply receiving what Jesus already paid for. Praise Jesus that when He said “It is finished” He truly meant it!
In John 8:12, Jesus says “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Then in Matthew 5:16 He says “In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” Nothing can produce light on its own. All light comes from God. But once Jesus has started His fire burning in you, it is a great privilege to display that to the world. A candle will never be able to light itself, but once it is lit, it can be used to light other candles. But a candle must be tipped over to share its flame with the next candle. This is why Jesus talked many times to His disciples about humility and being willing to serve. James 4:10 says “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.” Pride gets in the way of God’s love that is meant to flow through us. Pride causes us to think only of ourselves, and we miss opportunities to love people. But when we humble ourselves before God, He is able to raise us up to share His extravagant love with the people around us. And unlike a candle that will eventually burn down, God’s love knows no limits. The possibilities to love and serve Him are only limited by our willingness. Recently a woman who doesn’t know Jesus yet came to me crying. She is in a difficult place in life, and she was saying how depressed she is feeling. I gave her a hug, told her how much God loved her and that He had a better plan for her future. When she left, I told God that I knew He loved her, and asked Him to please somehow SHOW HER how much He cares. In such a clear voice He spoke to my heart and told me that He DID show her. He sent her to me for a hug and encouragement, and to be pointed to Jesus. We partner with Him to see His Kingdom on earth by letting His love flow through us to others. What an honor it is to love people! God reveals His love to us so we can share it and be burning lights in a dark world!
“He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that you might die to sins and live for righteousness; by His wounds you have been healed,” 1 Peter 2:24. My whole life I never really thought about that verse and what it really meant. But last fall my life took a crazy turn, and I had to face reality. I went to the doctor with scary symptoms and heard the words I never wanted to hear. I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. I was told it was an “incurable disease,” but I would be on medication to control the symptoms. This medication was the only hope they could offer me of some relief from the pain and ease my mind that I would still be able to be active as I got older. As a wife and a mother of 3 small kids, I could imagine the worst outcome and I felt devastated. But in my heart, I knew there had to be a better way. I began praying and asking God to give me wisdom. I searched Scripture and began to see how Jesus healed people. MANY times, the gospels proclaim that Jesus healed every person in the crowds around Him. Hebrews 1:3 says that “The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word.” If Jesus had a heart to heal all the sick, then we can have confidence that the Father does too! I began to understand that the work Jesus did on the cross was complete. When He said “it is finished,” He meant it! He paid the full price for me to be healed, and when the Word says “YOU HAVE BEEN HEALED,” it literally means that Jesus has already done it! It is a finished work, and we can now receive it! I began to believe God for my healing, and I asked Him to get me where I needed to be to see it happen. In His great kindness, He put me down a path that not only lead to me being healed of MS, I was also healed of thyroid disease and asthma! These were things I hadn’t even asked for, but God knew I needed it. I was completely blown away by the kindness of Jesus! Today exactly one year later, I am still so grateful for my Savior who gave His life for mine. That He took our infirmities and carried our sorrows so we can have health and joy. Do you believe that God still heals today? I am a walking, breathing example of what He can do, and I am not the only one. I have seen many people healed this year. He is not limited by a doctor’s proclamation that any disease is “incurable.” There is no such word in God’s vocabulary. I am not against doctors or medicine. I was a nurse for 11 years. But I truly believe that God’s way is greater, and we need to put our faith in Him before we turn to people for our help. If you are sick and need any sort of healing, will you run to Him first? Will you turn to His Word and stand on the promises that He has given? The rewards are great if you will hold His Word above all things and put your confidence in Him!
How important are our words? Does it make a difference how we speak? Proverbs 18:21 says “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Its so easy to quickly read over that verse and not take in its true meaning. I believe that this verse needs to be taken literally, and that it makes a huge difference in your life how you speak and what you say! God changed Abram’s name to Abraham, which means “father of a multitude.” Names in those days meant a lot to people. Everyone knew what your name meant. Can you imagine Abraham declaring in his old age that he was the father of a multitude when he was still childless? He must have looked foolish to the people around him. But God changed his name so that he would be declaring over himself the promise that he had been given. Every time he said that his name was Abraham, he was speaking God’s truth over himself! Our words are powerful! In James chapter 3, we are reminded that we can control a horse by putting a bit in its mouth. If you’ve ever ridden a horse, you know that it can only walk the direction its head is facing. If you turn its head using a bit, the entire animal is forced to walk in that direction. James makes this comparison in relation to controlling our tongue and choosing our words. Our life will follow the general direction of how we speak. When we speak negative words over ourselves and others, we are speaking death. But our positive words that contain the truth of God’s Word bring life! Proverbs 16:24 says “gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.” This world wants us to believe the worst. The enemy wants us to be afraid and feel defeated, but God’s Word says differently. If you have accepted Christ as your savior, you are righteous! His grace covers you, and your sins will never be held against you! The Living God is on your side, and He wants the best for you! We need to reject the negative death-filled words that this world offers us, and instead speak positive, life-giving words that declare the goodness of God over us!
